Keep the Promise: Someone is Counting on You

As Christmas winds down and the last of the wrapping paper is swept away, it’s a natural time to pause and reflect on the year behind us — what went well, what didn’t, and what we hope to change moving forward. And if you’re anything like me, that reflection often turns into goals, intentions, and New Year’s resolutions.

So many people abandon their resolutions before the second week of January. Too often, we give up on ourselves and the promises we make to ourselves. I did that year after year.

But in 2025, something changed.

As many of you know, I lost over 100 pounds this year — 150 pounds total. I was nearing 400 pounds at my heaviest, weighing 370, and today I weigh 220. I started the year wearing 4XL shirts, and now I wear a size large. It still amazes me to wear clothes smaller than what I wore in high school or college.

My weight loss has radically changed my life in every way imaginable. I don’t share this to brag or boast, but to encourage anyone who is walking a similar road.

On Christmas morning, Ellen wrote me a note saying that the greatest gift to her and the boys was me losing the weight and getting my health back. I’ll admit, I read it with tears in my eyes — because when it comes to our health, more lives are affected than just our own.

With my renewed energy, I’m more productive at work and more present at home. So my encouragement to you is simple: keep the promises you make to yourself.

Someone is counting on you.

Your friend,
Dr. Mosier
