They Never Complained of Pain — What One Mom Discovered When She Had Her Kids Checked

This week’s blog is going to look a little different.

Instead of hearing from Dr. Mosier, I wanted to share something personal—my family’s journey with chiropractic care and how much my perspective has changed along the way.

Before I ever worked at Mosier Family Chiropractic, I was actually a patient of Dr. Mosier’s. I had experienced relief through my own care, so I already had some understanding of what happened inside these walls.

But working here changed things.

Day after day, I started hearing patients share their stories. I watched people come in struggling and saw how they progressed over time. And beyond the stories, I began seeing the changes documented through exams and X-rays.

After a few months on the job, I started thinking about my own kids.

None of them were coming to me complaining about terrible back pain. There wasn’t some major problem that made me think, “I need to get them to a chiropractor.”

I simply wanted to have them checked.

So I started with my five-year-old daughter.

And I was shocked.

Her evaluation showed scoliosis. She had never complained of pain, and nothing during her routine pediatric visits had made me suspect there was an issue. We also found a noticeable difference in her leg lengths.

I remember thinking: How did I not know?

We started her on a chiropractic care plan, and she absolutely LOVES coming into the office for her adjustments. Most importantly, I’m grateful we discovered the curve while she is still young and can monitor how her spine develops as she grows.

Then came my nine-year-old son.

I happened to mention to Doc that he was still wetting the bed at nine years old. Doc suggested we evaluate him and see what was going on.

His X-rays and scans showed an issue with the alignment of his upper cervical spine, including his atlas. After his first adjustment, something happened that I certainly wasn’t expecting:

He stopped wetting the bed.

That was his experience, and as a mom, it got my attention.

At that point, we were beginning to see a pattern: our kids could have things going on with their spines without us ever knowing.

So we had our three oldest daughters evaluated too.

My 15-year-old’s spinal curve measured just shy of the threshold used to define scoliosis.

My 13-year-old has a double spinal curve.

And my 12-year-old has a reversed neck curve with significant forward head posture, putting additional stress on her spine.

All three had dealt with headaches, something we had almost accepted as normal. Since beginning care, they’ve already told me they’re experiencing fewer headaches and that the headaches they do have aren't as severe.

And they only started care this past week.

I’ll admit something…

I used to think chiropractic was a little “woo-woo.”

I wasn’t sure I believed in it. I didn’t really understand it.

Then I became a patient.

Then I started working here.

Then I watched other people’s journeys.

And finally, I saw what was happening in my own family.

I’m so thankful I took a chance on this office, on Doc, and on learning more about chiropractic care. Most of all, I’m thankful I decided to have my kids evaluated—even when I didn’t know anything was wrong.

Their experience taught me something I won’t soon forget:

Sometimes our kids don’t hurt. They don’t complain. They don’t tell us something is wrong—because they don’t know anything is wrong either.

Sometimes, you simply have to look.

And I’m very thankful we did.
